The 2010 Project

Thank you all for being so PRESENT with us on this special day!

Over 100 people, including 4 school groups, stopped by throughout the day to make this happen.

The project’s goal is simple: To bring people together in the art of creating something beautiful.

In Missoula, MT the project is our way of celebrating Dia de Lost Muertos (Day of the Dead) and being PRESENT with those we’ve lost.

2010 Mandala On its Way!!!

Around this time of year we get slammed with work and school. Busy field season, mid-terms….why spend so much energy and time to make a piece of art that you’re going to rake up anyway???? And you let random people participate????

It’s because of YOU– lovely, amazing Missoula community– and all the love and positive feedback you give us to bring this project back for a 3rd year. We have been so inspired by your support and generosity! The Mandala is really a space that we make together: It is what we all bring to it!!!

And the Mandala is a place for us to be present in the memory of those we have lost. Let’s celebrate their lives with color, community and creativity!

That said, sawdust dyeing has begun: THANK YOU dear friends who showed up Sunday: Bri and Rob, Hanna, Mary, Jeremy and Emily, Martin, Caleb and Nanda! You all ROCK!!!!

Help Make the 2010 Missoula Mandala Happen

The Missoula Mandala Project has one simple objective: To bring the Missoula community together to collectively create a large public piece of art. We create, celebrate and then recycle this piece within 24 hours at Caras Park, coinciding with one of Missoula’s most unique and popular events, the Day of the Dead parade, November 2^nd.

We are trying to realize the third consecutive Mandala Project. Our goal is to fill 10,000 square feet of public park space with a painting made of biodegradeable colored sawdust. Our costs are for materials only; all the labor is volunteered by people like you! Will you join the growing list of businesses and individuals already supporting us?

There are several ways you can help us make this project happen:

Contribute an item to our raffle. Raffle tickets will be sold at farmer’s markets and other public venues in Missoula up until November 2^nd. Tickets are sold for $3 or 2 for $5. The raffle drawing will be held at Caras Park on November 2^nd and prizes delivered to winners.
Donate directly to the project. This can be done online through our paypal account or via check. Every dollar buys us 10 square feet of the project.

Thank you to all of the individuals and businesses who lent a hand to help us create the 2009 Missoula Mandala during Dia de Los Muertos last Monday, Nov. 2!!!

It was a gorgeous day at Caras Park and nearly 40 people came by throughout the day to spread sawdust and collectively create a bright and beautiful piece of art. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

If you weren’t able to make it down that day, we hope you at least got to see the piece! It lasted less than 24 hours and the colored sawdust is now mulching a nursery of trees for restoration projects.

We are lucky this year to have filmed the process of creating the Mandala in high definition video. We are hoping to produce a short, 7-minute piece about this project to use for future fundraising.
